VG LAWYERS Participation in the Event “FIDIC in Focus”

VG LAWYERS had the privilege of participating in the highly anticipated event “FIDIC in Focus: Key Developments and Practical Applications in Construction Projects and Arbitrations”.

Representing our firm were Mr. Constantine Vrettos, Managing Partner and Ms. Maria Psarra, Partner.

The event, held at the Auditorium of the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, was organized in collaboration with ICC Hellas. It brought together esteemed panellists and guests to explore significant developments and practical applications in construction law, particularly focusing on FIDIC contracts and arbitration.

In Greece, despite the widespread adoption of the FIDIC suite of contracts in international construction projects, their application within the local construction industry remains relatively uncharted. This gap is compounded by the Greek Civil Code’s limited construction contract provisions and the nascent use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as Dispute Adjudication Boards and Expert Determinations.

The conference addressed these pressing issues, providing valuable insights into the practical applications of FIDIC contracts, arbitration, and dispute resolution mechanisms. It served as a platform for practitioners, in-house counsel, and industry professionals from Greece and beyond to engage in meaningful dialogue.

Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Christopher Seppälä, an Independent Arbitrator and Expert, setting the tone for an enlightening and impactful event.
